8:1 아이 성을 점령하다 여호와께서 여호수아에게 이르시되 두려워하지 말라 놀라지 말라 군사를 다 거느리고 일어나 아이로 올라가라 보라 내가 아이 왕과 그의 백성과 그의 성읍과 그의 땅을 다 네 손에 넘겨 주었으니
8:2 너는 여리고와 그 왕에게 행한 것 같이 아이와 그 왕에게 행하되 오직 거기서 탈취할 물건과 가축은 스스로 가지라 너는 아이 성 뒤에 복병을 둘지니라 하시니
8:3 이에 여호수아가 일어나서 군사와 함께 아이로 올라가려 하여 용사 삼만 명을 뽑아 밤에 보내며
8:4 그들에게 명령하여 이르되 너희는 성읍 뒤로 가서 성읍을 향하여 매복하되 그 성읍에서 너무 멀리 하지 말고 다 스스로 준비하라
8:5 나와 나를 따르는 모든 백성은 다 성읍으로 가까이 가리니 그들이 처음과 같이 우리에게로 쳐 올라올 것이라 그리 할 때에 우리가 그들 앞에서 도망하면
8:6 그들이 나와서 우리를 추격하며 이르기를 그들이 처음과 같이 우리 앞에서 도망한다 하고 우리의 유인을 받아 그 성읍에서 멀리 떠날 것이라 우리가 그들 앞에서 도망하거든
8:7 너희는 매복한 곳에서 일어나 그 성읍을 점령하라 너희 하나님 여호와께서 그 성읍을 너희 손에 주시리라
8:8 너희가 그 성읍을 취하거든 그것을 불살라 여호와의 말씀대로 행하라 보라 내가 너희에게 명령하였느니라 하고
8:9 그들을 보내매 그들이 매복할 곳으로 가서 아이 서쪽 벧엘과 아이 사이에 매복하였고 여호수아는 그 밤에 백성 가운데에서 잤더라
8:10 여호수아가 아침에 일찍이 일어나 백성을 점호하고 이스라엘 장로들과 더불어 백성에 앞서 아이로 올라가매
8:11 그와 함께 한 군사가 다 올라가서 그 성읍 앞에 가까이 이르러 아이 북쪽에 진 치니 그와 아이 사이에는 한 골짜기가 있더라
8:12 그가 약 오천 명을 택하여 성읍 서쪽 벧엘과 아이 사이에 매복시키니
8:13 이와 같이 성읍 북쪽에는 온 군대가 있고 성읍 서쪽에는 복병이 있었더라 여호수아가 그 밤에 골짜기 가운데로 들어가니
8:14 아이 왕이 이를 보고 그 성읍 백성과 함께 일찍이 일어나 급히 나가 아라바 앞에 이르러 정한 때에 이스라엘과 싸우려 하나 성읍 뒤에 복병이 있는 줄은 알지 못하였더라
8:15 여호수아와 온 이스라엘이 그들 앞에서 거짓으로 패한 척하여 광야 길로 도망하매
8:16 그 성읍에 있는 모든 백성이 그들을 추격하려고 모여 여호수아를 추격하며 유인함을 받아 아이 성읍을 멀리 떠나니
8:17 아이와 벧엘에 이스라엘을 따라가지 아니한 자가 하나도 없으며 성문을 열어 놓고 이스라엘을 추격하였더라

8:1 아이 성의 붕괴 주께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. "두려워하지 말아라 ! 겁내지 말아라 ! 군인들을 다 동원하여 아이 성으로 쳐올라가거라. 보아라, 내가 아이의 왕과 백성과 성읍과 땅을 다 네 손에 넘겨 주었다.
8:2 너는 아이 성과 그 왕에게도 여리고와 그 왕에게 한 것처럼 하고, 오직 전리품과 가축은 너희가 가져라. 성 뒤쪽에 군인들을 매복시켜라."
8:3 여호수아가 군인들을 다 동원하여, 아이 성으로 쳐올라갔다. 여호수아는 용사 삼만 명을 뽑아 밤을 틈타 보내면서,
8:4 그들에게 명령을 내렸다. "너희들은 성 뒤로 가서, 성에서 너무 멀지 않은 곳에 매복하고, 모두들 공격할 준비를 갖추어라.
8:5 나와 함께 있는 모든 군인은 그 성으로 접근하겠다. 아이 성 사람들이 우리와 싸우려고 나오면, 우리는 지난번과 같이 뒤돌아서 도망칠 것이다.
8:6 그들은 우리를 뒤쫓고, 우리는 그들을 성 밖으로 이끌어 낼 것이다. 그들은 도망하는 우리를 보고서, 자기들끼리, 지난번과 같이 우리 앞에서 도망한다고 말할 것이다. 우리가 그들 앞에서 도망하거든,
8:7 너희는 매복하고 있던 곳에서 일어나서, 그 성을 점령하여라. 주 너희 하나님이 그 성을 너희의 손에 넘겨 주실 것이다.
8:8 성을 점령하거든, 주께서 하신 말씀을 따라서 그 성을 불태워라. 내가 너희에게 내린 명령이니, 명심하여라."
8:9 여호수아가 그들을 보내니, 그들이 매복할 곳으로 가서, 아이 성 서쪽, 베델과 아이 성 사이에 자리를 잡았다. 여호수아는 그 날 밤을 군인들과 함께 잤다.
8:10 여호수아는 아침 일찍 일어나서 군인들을 점호하고, 이스라엘 장로들과 함께 그들 앞에서 아이 성을 향하여 쳐올라갔다.
8:11 그와 함께 있던 군인들이 모두 쳐올라가서 성 앞에 다다랐다. 그들은 아이 성의 북쪽에 진을 쳤다. 그와 아이 성 사이에는 한 골짜기가 있었다.
8:12 그는 오천 명을 뽑아서 아이 성의 서쪽, 베델과 아이 성 사이에 매복시켰다.
8:13 이렇게 군인들은 모두 성 북쪽에 본진을 치고, 복병은 성의 서쪽에 배치하였다. 여호수아는 그 날 밤을 골짜기에서 보냈다.
8:14 아이 성의 왕이 여호수아의 군대를 보고, 그 성의 장정들과 함께 서둘러 일찍 일어나서, 이스라엘과 맞서 싸우려고 모두 아라바 앞의 싸움터로 나아갔다. 그러나 그는 성 뒤에 그를 칠 복병이 있는 줄은 미처 알지 못하였다.
8:15 여호수아와 이스라엘 온 군대가 그들 앞에서 패하는 척하며 광야 길로 도망쳤다.
8:16 그러자 성 안에 있는 모든 백성이 동원되어, 그들을 따라잡으려고 여호수아의 뒤를 쫓았다. 그들은 성으로부터 멀리 떨어졌다.
8:17 아이 성과 a) 베델에는 이스라엘 군대를 추격하지 않고 남아 있는 사람이 하나도 없었다. 그들은 성문을 열러 둔 채 이스라엘 군대를 추격하였다. (a. 70인역에는 베델이 없음)

8:1 야훼께서 여호수아에게 이르셨다. "두려워하지도 말고 겁내지도 말라. 전군을 거느리고 떠나 아이로 쳐올라 가거라. 보아라, 내가아이 왕과 그 백성과 성읍과 영토를 네 손에 붙인다.
8:2 네가 예리고와 그 왕을 해치웠듯이 아이와 그 왕도 해치울 터인데전리품과 가축은 자치해도 좋다. 그 성 뒤쪽에 복병을 배치하여라."
8:3 여호수아는 전군에게 아이로 쳐올라 갈 준비를 갖추게 한 다음 날쌘 용사 삼만 명을 뽑아 밤을 타 보내면서
8:4 지시하였다. "잘 들어라, 너희는 저 성 뒤로 돌아 가 성에서 너무멀지 않은 곳에 매복하고 대기하여라.
8:5 나는 나의 부대를 거느리고 저 성으로 다가가리라. 그들이 먼저처럼 우리를 맞아 싸우러 나오면, 우리는 쫓기는 체하겠다.
8:6 그들은 우리가 먼저처럼 도망을 친다고 생각하고 우리를 뒤쫓아 나올 것이다. 우리가 그들을 성에서 멀리 꾀어 내거든,
8:7 너희는 매복하고 있던 데서 일어나 저 성을 점령하여라. 너희 하느님 야훼께서 저 성을 너희의 손에 붙이시리라.
8:8 성을 점령하는 길로 불을 질러라. 야훼의 말씀이니 꼭 그대로 해야 한다. 내 명령이다."
8:9 여호수아는 그들을 떠나 보냈다. 그들은 아이와 베델 사이, 아이서편에 이르러 매복하였다. 한편 여호수아는 부대원들 틈에 끼어 그 밤을 지내고
8:10 이튿날 일찍 일어나 부대원을 점호한 다음 이스라엘 장로들과 함께 부대를 거느리고 아이로 쳐올라 갔다.
8:11 그를 쫓는 부대원 전원이 올라 가 성 정면을 향하여 다가갔다. 그들은 아이와 골짜기를 사이에 두고 아이 북쪽에 진을 쳤다.
8:12 그는 오천 명쯤 뽑아다가 성 서쪽 아이와 베델 사이에 매복시켰다.
8:13 이렇게 전군은 성 북쪽에 진을 치고 성 서쪽에는 기습부대를 배치하였다. 그리고 여호수아는 그 밤을 골짜기에서 지냈다.
8:14 아이 왕은 이것을 보고 아침 일찌기 서둘러 자기 군대를 이끌고 이스라엘을 맞아 싸우러 아라바 맞은편 비탈로 나왔다. 그러나 그는 성 뒤 쪽에 자기를 치려고 복병이 숨어 있는 것을 몰랐다.
8:15 여호수아는 온 이스라엘군과 함께 쫓기는 체 광야 쪽으로 도망쳤다.
8:16 성에 있던 전 부대가 그들을 따라 잡으라고 고함을 지르며 이스라엘을 추격하였다. 그들은 여호수아의 유인을 받아 성에서 멀리 끌려 나오고 말았다.
8:17 아이에는 한 명도 남지 않고 이스라엘을 쫓아 나왔던 것이다. 그들은 저희의 성을 비워 두고 성문을 열어 둔 채 이스라엘을 추격하였다.

8:1 여호와께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. '너는 두려워하거나 무서워하지 말고 전 군대를 이끌고 아이성을 치러 올라가거라. 내가 이미 아이 왕과 그 백성, 그리고 그 성과 땅을 모두 네 손에 넘겨 주었다.
8:2 너는 여리고와 그 왕에게 했던 것처럼 아이성과 그 왕에게도 그렇게 하여라. 그러나 전과는 달리 약탈한 물건과 가축은 너희가 가져도 좋다. 이번에는 성 뒤에 병력을 매복시켜라.'
8:3 그래서 여호수아는 아이성을 칠 주력 부대가 떠나기에 앞서 3,000명의 정예병을 뽑아 그들에게 작전 명령을 하달하였다. '여러분은 성 뒤로 가서 그리 멀리 떨어지지 않은 지점에 매복하여 공격 준비를 하시오.
8:4 (3절과 같음)
8:5 내가 인솔하는 주력부대가 성을 치러 가까이 가면 아이군이 전과 같이 싸우러 나올 것입니다. 그러면 우리가 그들에게 쫓겨 도망하는 척하면서
8:6 우리를 추격하는 아이군이 성 안에서 완전히 다 빠져나올 때까지 유인 작전을 벌이겠습니다. 아마 그들은 전과 같이 우리가 도망친다고 생각할 것입니다. 그들이 성에서 다 빠져나오면
8:7 여러분은 매복하고 있던 곳에서 일제히 일어나 성 안으로 돌격하여 그 성을 점령하시오. 여러분의 하나님 여호와께서 그 성을 여러분에게 주실 것입니다.
8:8 성을 점령하면 여러분은 여호와의 명령대로 그 곳에 불을 지르시오. 이것은 내가 여러분에게 내리는 명령입니다.'
8:9 작전 지시가 끝나자 그 날 밤 그들은 여호수아의 명령대로 그 곳을 떠나 벧엘과 아이 사이에 매복하였고 여호수아는 백성들과 함께 그 날 밤을 진영에서 보냈다.
8:10 다음 날 아침 여호수아는 일찍 일어나 병력을 점검하고 백성의 지도자들과 함께 그들을 인솔하여 아이성으로 올라갔다.
8:11 그를 따르는 주력 부대는 성문쪽을 향해 나아가다가 계곡 하나를 사이에 두고 아이성 북쪽에 진을 쳤다.
8:12 그리고 여호수아는 5,000명 정도의 또 다른 병력을 뽑아 아이성 서쪽, 벧엘과 아이 사이에 매복시켰다.
8:13 이와 같이 아이성 북쪽에는 주력 부대가 배치되었고 나머지 병력은 아이성 서쪽에 매복하였으며 여호수아는 그 날 밤을 계곡에서 보냈다.
8:14 아이 왕이 이것을 보고 다음 날 아침 일찍 일어나 병력을 이끌고 이스라엘 군과 싸우기 위해 요단 계곡을 향해 달려나왔다. 물론 그들은 이스라엘 병력이 성 뒤에 매복하고 있는 것은 모르고 있었다.
8:15 여호수아와 이스라엘 군대는 패한 척하면서 광야 길로 도망쳤다.
8:16 이때 성 안의 모든 아이군이 이스라엘 군의 유인 작전에 말려들어 그들을 추격하느라고 성에서 멀리 떠났다.
8:17 그래서 아이성이나 벧엘에는 남아 있는 적군이 한 명도 없었고 성문은 활짝 열려 있었으며 성은 무방비 상태였다.

8:1~17
8:1 Then the LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Take the whole army with you, and go up and attack Ai. For I have delivered into your hands the king of Ai, his people, his city and his land.
8:2 You shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king, except that you may carry off their plunder and livestock for yourselves. Set an ambush behind the city."
8:3 So Joshua and the whole army moved out to attack Ai. He chose thirty thousand of his best fighting men and sent them out at night
8:4 with these orders: "Listen carefully. You are to set an ambush behind the city. Don't go very far from it. All of you be on the alert.
8:5 I and all those with me will advance on the city, and when the men come out against us, as they did before, we will flee from them.
8:6 They will pursue us until we have lured them away from the city, for they will say, 'They are running away from us as they did before.' So when we flee from them,
8:7 you are to rise up from ambush and take the city. The LORD your God will give it into your hand.
8:8 When you have taken the city, set it on fire. Do what the LORD has commanded. See to it; you have my orders."
8:9 Then Joshua sent them off, and they went to the place of ambush and lay in wait between Bethel and Ai, to the west of Ai--but Joshua spent that night with the people.
8:10 Early the next morning Joshua mustered his men, and he and the leaders of Israel marched before them to Ai.
8:11 The entire force that was with him marched up and approached the city and arrived in front of it. They set up camp north of Ai, with the valley between them and the city.
8:12 Joshua had taken about five thousand men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, to the west of the city.
8:13 They had the soldiers take up their positions--all those in the camp to the north of the city and the ambush to the west of it. That night Joshua went into the valley.
8:14 When the king of Ai saw this, he and all the men of the city hurried out early in the morning to meet Israel in battle at a certain place overlooking the Arabah. But he did not know that an ambush had been set against him behind the city.
8:15 Joshua and all Israel let themselves be driven back before them, and they fled toward the desert.
8:16 All the men of Ai were called to pursue them, and they pursued Joshua and were lured away from the city.
8:17 Not a man remained in Ai or Bethel who did not go after Israel. They left the city open and went in pursuit of Israel.

8:1 And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land:
8:2 And thou shalt do to Ai and her king as thou didst unto Jericho and her king: only the spoil thereof, and the cattle thereof, shall ye take for a prey unto yourselves: lay thee an ambush for the city behind it.
8:3 So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against Ai: and Joshua chose out thirty thousand mighty men of valour, and sent them away by night.
8:4 And he commanded them, saying, Behold, ye shall lie in wait against the city, [even] behind the city: go not very far from the city, but be ye all ready:
8:5 And I, and all the people that [are] with me, will approach unto the city: and it shall come to pass, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them,
8:6 (For they will come out after us) till we have drawn them from the city; for they will say, They flee before us, as at the first: therefore we will flee before them.
8:7 Then ye shall rise up from the ambush, and seize upon the city: for the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand.
8:8 And it shall be, when ye have taken the city, [that] ye shall set the city on fire: according to the commandment of the LORD shall ye do. See, I have commanded you.
8:9 Joshua therefore sent them forth: and they went to lie in ambush, and abode between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai: but Joshua lodged that night among the people.
8:10 And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and numbered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.
8:11 And all the people, [even the people] of war that [were] with him, went up, and drew nigh, and came before the city, and pitched on the north side of Ai: now [there was] a valley between them and Ai.
8:12 And he took about five thousand men, and set them to lie in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.
8:13 And when they had set the people, [even] all the host that [was] on the north of the city, and their liers in wait on the west of the city, Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.
8:14 And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw [it], that they hasted and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at a time appointed, before the plain; but he wist not that [there were] liers in ambush against him behind the city.
8:15 And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
8:16 And all the people that [were] in Ai were called together to pursue after them: and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.
8:17 And there was not a man left in Ai or Bethel, that went not out after Israel: and they left the city open, and pursued after Israel.

8:4 And he commanded them, saying, "See, you are going to ambush the city from behind it. Do not go very far from the city, but all of you be ready.
8:5 "Then I and all the people who are with me will approach the city. And it will come about when they come out to meet us as at the first, that we will flee before them.
8:6 "And they will come out after us until we have drawn them away from the city, for they will say, '[They] are fleeing before us as at the first.' So we will flee before them.
8:7 "And you shall rise from [your] ambush and take possession of the city, for the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand.
8:8 "Then it will be when you have seized the city, that you shall set the city on fire. You shall do [it] according to the word of the LORD. See, I have commanded you."
8:9 So Joshua sent them away, and they went to the place of ambush and remained between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai; but Joshua spent that night among the people.
8:10 Now Joshua rose early in the morning and mustered the people, and he went up with the elders of Israel before the people to Ai.
8:11 Then all the people of war who [were] with him went up and drew near and arrived in front of the city, and camped on the north side of Ai. Now [there was] a valley between him and Ai.
8:12 And he took about 50000 men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.
8:13 So they stationed the people, all the army that was on the north side of the city, and its rear guard on the west side of the city, and Joshua spent that night in the midst of the valley.
8:14 And it came about when the king of Ai saw [it,] that the men of the city hurried and rose up early and went out to meet Israel in battle, he and all his people at the appointed place before the desert plain. But he did not know that [there was] an ambush against him behind the city.
8:15 And Joshua and all Israel pretended to be beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
8:16 And all the people who were in the city were called together to pursue them, and they pursued Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.
8:17 So not a man was left in Ai or Bethel who had not gone out after Israel, and they left the city unguarded and pursued Israel.
