7:1~15
7:1 아간의 범죄 이스라엘 자손들이 온전히 바친 물건으로 말미암아 범죄하였으니 이는 유다 지파 세라의 증손 삽디의 손자 갈미의 아들 아간이 온전히 바친 물건을 가졌음이라 여호와께서 이스라엘 자손들에게 진노하시니라
7:2 여호수아가 여리고에서 사람을 벧엘 동쪽 벧아웬 곁에 있는 아이로 보내며 그들에게 말하여 이르되 올라가서 그 땅을 정탐하라 하매 그 사람들이 올라가서 아이를 정탐하고
7:3 여호수아에게로 돌아와 그에게 이르되 백성을 다 올라가게 하지 말고 이삼천 명만 올라가서 아이를 치게 하소서 그들은 소수이니 모든 백성을 그리로 보내어 수고롭게 하지 마소서 하므로
7:4 백성 중 삼천 명쯤 그리로 올라갔다가 아이 사람 앞에서 도망하니
7:5 아이 사람이 그들을 삼십육 명쯤 쳐죽이고 성문 앞에서부터 스바림까지 쫓아가 내려가는 비탈에서 쳤으므로 백성의 마음이 녹아 물 같이 된지라
7:6 여호수아가 옷을 찢고 이스라엘 장로들과 함께 여호와의 궤 앞에서 땅에 엎드려 머리에 티끌을 뒤집어쓰고 저물도록 있다가
7:7 이르되 슬프도소이다 주 여호와여 어찌하여 이 백성을 인도하여 요단을 건너게 하시고 우리를 아모리 사람의 손에 넘겨 멸망시키려 하셨나이까 우리가 요단 저쪽을 만족하게 여겨 거주하였더면 좋을 뻔하였나이다
7:8 주여 이스라엘이 그의 원수들 앞에서 돌아섰으니 내가 무슨 말을 하오리이까
7:9 가나안 사람과 이 땅의 모든 사람들이 듣고 우리를 둘러싸고 우리 이름을 세상에서 끊으리니 주의 크신 이름을 위하여 어떻게 하시려 하나이까 하니
7:10 여호와께서 여호수아에게 이르시되 일어나라 어찌하여 이렇게 엎드렸느냐
7:11 이스라엘이 범죄하여 내가 그들에게 명령한 나의 언약을 어겼으며 또한 그들이 온전히 바친 물건을 가져가고 도둑질하며 속이고 그것을 그들의 물건들 가운데에 두었느니라
7:12 그러므로 이스라엘 자손들이 그들의 원수 앞에 능히 맞서지 못하고 그 앞에서 돌아섰나니 이는 그들도 온전히 바친 것이 됨이라 그 온전히 바친 물건을 너희 중에서 멸하지 아니하면 내가 다시는 너희와 함께 있지 아니하리라
7:13 너는 일어나서 백성을 거룩하게 하여 이르기를 너희는 내일을 위하여 스스로 거룩하게 하라 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 말씀에 이스라엘아 너희 가운데에 온전히 바친 물건이 있나니 너희가 그 온전히 바친 물건을 너희 가운데에서 제하기까지는 네 원수들 앞에 능히 맞서지 못하리라
7:14 너희는 아침에 너희의 지파대로 가까이 나아오라 여호와께 뽑히는 그 지파는 그 족속대로 가까이 나아올 것이요 여호와께 뽑히는 족속은 그 가족대로 가까이 나아올 것이요 여호와께 뽑히는 그 가족은 그 남자들이 가까이 나아올 것이며
7:15 온전히 바친 물건을 가진 자로 뽑힌 자를 불사르되 그와 그의 모든 소유를 그리하라 이는 여호와의 언약을 어기고 이스라엘 가운데에서 망령된 일을 행하였음이라 하셨다 하라

7:1~15
7:1 아간의 죄 이스라엘 자손이, a) 전멸시켜서 주께 바쳐야 할 물건을 잘못 다루었다. 유다 지파에서, 세라의 증손이요 삽디의 손자요 갈미의 아들인 아간이, 전멸시켜서 주께 바쳐야 할 물건을 가져 갔기 때문에, 주께서 이스라엘 자손들에게 진노하셨다. (a. 2:10절 주를 볼 것)
7:2 여호수아가 여리고에서 b) 베델 동쪽 c) 벳아웬 곁에 있는 d) 아이 성으로 사람들을 보내면서 그들에게 올라가서 아이 성을 정탐하였다. (b. 하나님의 집 c. 악한 자의 집, 히브리어 본문에서는 벳아웬(악한 자의 집)과 베델(하나님의 집)이 대조되어 나옴.70인역에는 베델 곁에 있는 아이 성으로 임. d. 폐허)
7:3 그들이 여호수아에게 돌아와서 이렇게 말하였다. "모든 백성이 다 올라가게 할 필요가 없을 것 같습니다. 이천 명이나 삼천 명만 올라가도 아이 성을 칠 수 있습니다. 모든 백성이 그 성을 치느라고 다 수고할 필요가 없을 것 같습니다. 성 안에 있는 사람들의 수가 얼마 되지 않습니다."
7:4 백성 가운데서 약 삼천 명이 그리로 올라갔다. 그러나 그들은 도리어 아이 성 사람에게 패하여 도망쳐 왔다.
7:5 아이 성 사람은 이스라엘 사람을 서른여섯 명쯤 죽이고, 성문 앞에서부터 스바림까지 추격하여 비탈길에서 그들을 쳤으므로, 백성의 간담이 서늘해졌다.
7:6 여호수아는 슬퍼하면서 옷을 찢고, 주의 궤 앞에서 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려서 저녁때까지 있었다. 이스라엘의 장로들도 그를 따라 슬픔에 젖어, 머리에 먼지를 뒤집어썼다.
7:7 여호수아가 아뢰었다. "주 하나님, 우리 백성을 요단 강 서쪽으로 잘 건너게 하시고는 왜 우리를 아모리 사람의 손에 넘기어 멸망시키려 하십니까 ? 차라리 우리가 요단 강 동쪽에서 그대로 살았더라면 좋을 뻔하였습니다.
7:8 주님, 이스라엘이 원수 앞에서 패하여 되돌아왔으니, 이제 제가 무슨 말을 할 수 있겠습니까 ?
7:9 가나안 사람과 그 땅에 사는 모든 주민이 이 소식을 듣고 우리를 에워싸고, 이 땅에서 우리의 이름을 없애 버릴 터인데, 주께서는 주의 위대한 명성을 어떻게 지키시겠습니까 ?"
7:10 주께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. "일어나거라. 어찌하여 이렇게 엎드려 있느냐 ?
7:11 이스라엘이 죄를 지었다. 나와 맺은 언약, 지키라고 명령한 그 언약을 그들이 어겼고, 전멸시켜서 주께 바쳐야 할 물건을 도둑질하여 가져갔으며, 또한 거짓말을 하면서 그 물건을 자기들의 재산으로 만들었다.
7:12 그래서 이스라엘 자손은 원수를 대적할 수 없었고, 원수 앞에서 패하여 물러섰다. 그들이 자청하여 저주를 불러들여서 그들 스스로가 전멸시켜야 할 물건이 되었기 때문이다. 너희들 가운데서 전멸시켜 주께 바쳐야 할 물건을 없애지 아니하면, 내가 다시는 너희와 함께 있지 않겠다.
7:13 일어나서 백성을 성결하게 하여라. 너는 그들에게 말하여라. 너희는 스스로 성결하게 하여, 내일을 맞이할 준비를 하여라. 주 이스라엘의 하나님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. 이스라엘아, 너희 가운데 전멸시켜서 주께 바쳐야 할 물건이 있다. 그것을 너희 가운데서 제거하기 전에는, 너희의 원수를 너희가 대적할 수 없다.
7:14 너희는 아침에 지파별로 나오너라. 주께서 주사위로 뽑으신 지파는 가문별로 가까이 나오고, 주께서 주사위로 뽑으신 가문은 집안별로 가까이 나오고, 또한 주께서 주사위로 뽑으신 집안은 장정별로 가까이 나오너라.
7:15 전멸시켜서 주께 바쳐야 할 물건을 가져 간 사람이 주사위로 뽑히면, 그에게 딸린 모든 것과 함께 그를 불에 태우겠다. 그가 주의 언약을 어기고, 이스라엘에서 수치스러운 일을 저질렀기 때문이다."

7:2 여호수아가 여리고에서 사람을 벧엘 동편 벧아웬 곁에 있는 아이로 보내며 그들에게 일러 가로되 올라가서 그 땅을 정탐하라 하매 그 사람들이 올라가서 아이를 정탐하고

7:8 주여 이스라엘이 그 대적 앞에서 돌아섰으니 내가 무슨 말을 하오리이까
7:9 가나안 사람과 이 땅 모든 거민이 이를 듣고 우리를 둘러싸고 우리 이름을 세상에서 끊으리니 주의 크신 이름을 위하여 어떻게 하시려나이까
7:10 여호와께서 여호수아에게 이르시되 일어나라 어찌하여 이렇게 엎드렸느냐
7:11 이스라엘이 범죄하여 내가 그들에게 명한 나의 언약을 어기었나니 곧 그들이 바친 물건을 취하고 도적하고 사기하여 자기 기구 가운데 두었느니라
7:12 그러므로 이스라엘 자손들이 자기 대적을 능히 당치 못하고 그 앞에서 돌아섰나니 이는 자기도 바친 것이 됨이라 그 바친 것을 너희 중에서 멸하지 아니하면 내가 다시는 너희와 함께 있지 아니하리라
7:13 너는 일어나서 백성을 성결케 하여 이르기를 너희는 스스로 성결케 하여 내일을 기다리라 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 말씀에 이스라엘아 너의 중에 바친 물건이 있나니 네가 그 바친 물건을 너의 중에서 제하기 전에는 너의 대적을 당치 못하리라
7:14 아침에 너희는 너희 지파대로 가까이 나아오라 여호와께 뽑히는 지파는 그 족속대로 가까이 나아올 것이요 여호와께 뽑히는 족속은 그 가족대로 가까이 나아올 것이요 여호와께 뽑히는 가족은 각 남자대로 가까이 나아올 것이며
7:15 바친 물건을 가진 자로 뽑힌 자를 불사르되 그와 그 모든 소유를 그리하라 이는 여호와의 언약을 어기고 이스라엘 가운데서 망령된 일을 행하였음이라 하셨다 하라

7:1 이스라엘 백성이 모든 부정한 것을 없애라는 명을 어겨 죄를 짓는일이 생겼다. 유다 지파 가운데 제라의 증손자이자 잡디의 손자이며 가르미의 아들인 아간이 부정한 것을 가졌던 것이다. 이일 때문에 야훼께서는 이스라엘 백성에게 몹시 노하셨다.
7:2 여호수아는 예리고에서 베델 동편 아이로 사람을 보내면서 "올라 가 그 땅을 정탐하고 오너라." 하고 명령하였다. 그들은 올라 가 아이를 정탐하고
7:3 여호수아에게 돌아 와 보고하였다. "전군이 다 올라 갈 것까지는 없습니다. 이 삼천 명만 올라 가도 아이는 넉넉히 칠 수 있습니다. 사람이 많지 않더이다. 군대를 총출동시켜 고생시킬 필요는 없습니다."
7:4 그리하여 군대 약 삼천 명이 그리로 쳐올라 갔다가, 도리어 아이의 주민들에게 쫓기게 되었다.
7:5 그들은 성문에서 스바림까지, 또 거기에서 비탈길을 따라 이스라엘 사람들을 추격해 오면서 삼십 육 명이나 죽였다. 백성은크게 낙담하였다.
7:6 여호수아와 이스라엘의 장로들은 옷을 찢고 머리에 먼지를 쓴 채 저물 때까지 야훼의 궤 앞에 엎드려 있었다.
7:7 여호수아가 울부짖었다. "나의 주 야훼여, 어찌하여 이 백성으로 하여금 요르단강을 건너게 하시고는 이제 아모리 사람들 손에 붙이시어 멸망시키려고 하십니까? 차라리 요르단강 건너편에서 살게 해 주셨더라면 좋았겠습니다.
7:8 나의 주여, 소인이 아뢰는 말에 귀를 기울여 주십시오. 그러나 이스라엘이 원수에게 등을 보인 이 마당에 제가 무슨 말을 할 수 있겠습니까?
7:9 가나안 사람들뿐 아니라 이 땅에 사는 모든 사람이 이 소식을 들으면 우리를 포위하고 공격할 것입니다. 주여, 어떻게 당신의 위대하신 이름을 살리시렵니까?"
7:10 야훼께서 여호수아에게 대답하셨다. "일어나거라! 어찌하여 이렇게 엎드려 있느냐?
7:11 이스라엘은 죄를 지었다. 내가 분부한 지시를 어기고 부정한 것을가졌다. 그리고 그것을 훔쳐다가 자기 행낭에 숨겨 두었다.
7:12 그리하여 저희들이 스스로 부정한 것이 되었다. 이스라엘군이 원수들과 맞설 수 없게 된 것은, 원수들에게 등을 보이게 된 것은그 때문이다. 너희 가운데서 그 부정한 것을 치워 버려라. 그렇지아니하면 다시는 내가 너희와 함께 하지 아니하리라.
7:13 너는 일어나 이 백성을 깨끗하게 하여라. 이스라엘의 하느님 야훼께서 내일을 위하여 몸과 마음을 깨끗이 하라더라고 전하며 이렇게 일러라. '이스라엘아, 너희 가운데 부정한 것이 있다. 그 부정한 것을 치울 때까지 너희는 원수들과 맞설 수 없으리라.'
7:14 너희는 아침에 지파별로 나오너라. 그 가운데서 내가 잡아내는 지파가 갈래별로 나오고 또 그 가운데서 잡아내는 갈래가 가문별로 나오고 또 그 가운데서 잡아내는 갈래에 속한 가문의 장정이 차례로 나오너라.
7:15 부정한 것을 가지고 있다가 잡힌 자는 그 식구와 함께 화형을 당하리라. 그가 나 야훼의 지시를 어기고 이스라엘 가운데서 못할짓을 했기 때문이다."

7:1 이스라엘 백성 가운데 전리품에 관한 여호와의 명령을 어기고 죄를 범한 자가 있었다. 그는 유다 지파에 속한 세라의 증손이며 삽디의 손자이자 갈미의 아들인 아간이었다. 그가 전리품의 일부를 훔쳤으므로 여호와께서 이스라엘 백성에게 몹시 노하셨다.
7:2 여리고성을 점령한 직후에, 여호수아는 여리고에서 몇 명의 정찰병을 보내 벧엘 동쪽, 벤-아웬 근처에 있는 아이성을 탐지해 오라고 지시하였다. 그래서 그들은 그 땅을 탐지하고
7:3 돌아와서 여호수아에게 이렇게 보고하였다. '아이성을 치기 위해 모든 군대가 다 올라갈 필요는 없습니다. 그 곳은 2-3 천명 정도의 병력이면 충분히 칠 수 있는 조그마한 성이었습니다.'
7:4 그래서 3,000명 정도의 병력만 보냈으나 그들은 보기 좋게 패하여 아이군 앞에서 도망하였다.
7:5 아이군이 접전 끝에 36명 정도의 이스라엘 군을 죽이고 도주하는 나머지 병력을 성문에서부터 스바림까지 추격하여 비탈길에서 쳤으므로 이스라엘 군은 전의를 상실한 채 기진 맥진하여 떨고 있었다.
7:6 그러자 여호수아는 이스라엘 백성의 지도자들과 함께 옷을 찢고 통곡하며 머리에 티끌을 뒤집어쓰고 해가 저물도록 여호와의 법궤 앞에 엎드려 있다가
7:7 여호와에게 이렇게 부르짖었다. '주 여호와여, 정말 슬픈 일입니다. 어째서 이 백성을 인도하여 요단강을 건너게 하시고 아모리 사람의 손에 넘겨 멸망시키려고 하십니까? 차라리 우리가 요단강 건너편에서 살았더라면 좋을 뻔하였습니다.
7:8 여호와여, 이스라엘 군이 적군에게 패하며 쫓겨왔는데 내가 무슨 말을 할 수 있겠습니까?
7:9 가나안 사람들과 그 주변 민족들이 이 소식을 듣게 되면 그들이 우리를 포위하여 전멸시킬 것입니다. 주의 크신 이름을 위해 주께서는 어떻게 하시겠습니까 ?'
7:10 그때 여호와께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. '일어나라! 어째서 이렇게 엎드려 있느냐?
7:11 이스라엘이 죄를 짓고 말았다! 그들이 내 명령에 불순종하여 만지지 말라고 지시한 물건을 훔치고서도 그 사실을 속이고 그것을 자기 소유물 가운데 숨겨 두었다.
7:12 이것이 바로 이스라엘 군이 적군에게 패하여 등을 돌리고 달아나게 된 이유이다. 그 결과 너희도 역시 그 저주받은 물건과 같이 되었다. 너희가 가져서는 안 될 그 물건을 너희에게서 제거하지 않는 한 내가 다시는 너희와 함께 하지 않을 것이다.
7:13 너는 일어나 백성들을 성결하게 하고 내일을 위해 준비하라고 지시하여라. 그리고 이스라엘의 하나님 나 여호와가 이렇게 말한다고 그들에게 전하여라. '이스라엘아, 너희 가운데 가져서는 안 될 물건을 도둑질한 사람이 있다. 너희가 그 물건을 너희에게서 제거하기 전에는 너희가 적군을 당해 낼 수 없을 것이다.
7:14 내일 아침 너희는 지파별로 내 앞에 가까이 나오너라. 범인이 속해 있는 지파를 나 여호와가 지적하겠다. 나에게 지적 당한 그 지파는 집안별로 가까이 나오너라. 나 여호와가 그 범죄한 집안을 지적하겠다. 나에게 지적 당한 집안은 가족별로 나오너라. 그리고 지적 당한 가족은 한 사람씩 나와야 한다.
7:15 너희는 가져서는 안 될 물건을 도둑질한 자로 뽑힌 그 사람과 가족을 화형시키고 그가 가진 모든 물건을 불태워 버려라. 그는 나 여호와의 계약을 어기고 이스라엘 가운데 재난을 불러일으킨 장본인이다.'

7:1~15
7:1 But the Israelites acted unfaithfully in regard to the devoted things; Achan son of Carmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of them. So the LORD'S anger burned against Israel.
7:2 Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is near Beth Aven to the east of Bethel, and told them, "Go up and spy out the region." So the men went up and spied out Ai.
7:3 When they returned to Joshua, they said, "Not all the people will have to go up against Ai. Send two or three thousand men to take it and do not weary all the people, for only a few men are there."
7:4 So about three thousand men went up; but they were routed by the men of Ai,
7:5 who killed about thirty-six of them. They chased the Israelites from the city gate as far as the stone quarries and struck them down on the slopes. At this the hearts of the people melted and became like water.
7:6 Then Joshua tore his clothes and fell facedown to the ground before the ark of the LORD, remaining there till evening. The elders of Israel did the same, and sprinkled dust on their heads.
7:7 And Joshua said, "Ah, Sovereign LORD, why did you ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan!
7:8 O Lord, what can I say, now that Israel has been routed by its enemies?
7:9 The Canaanites and the other people of the country will hear about this and they will surround us and wipe out our name from the earth. What then will you do for your own great name?"
7:10 The LORD said to Joshua, "Stand up! What are you doing down on your face?
7:11 Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions.
7:12 That is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies; they turn their backs and run because they have been made liable to destruction. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction.
7:13 "Go, consecrate the people. Tell them, 'Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow; for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: That which is devoted is among you, O Israel. You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove it.
7:14 "'In the morning, present yourselves tribe by tribe. The tribe that the LORD takes shall come forward clan by clan; the clan that the LORD takes shall come forward family by family; and the family that the LORD takes shall come forward man by man.
7:15 He who is caught with the devoted things shall be destroyed by fire, along with all that belongs to him. He has violated the covenant of the LORD and has done a disgraceful thing in Israel!'"

7:1 But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel.
7:2 And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which [is] beside Bethaven, on the east side of Bethel, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai.
7:3 And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; [and] make not all the people to labour thither; for they [are but] few.
7:4 So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.
7:5 And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them [from] before the gate [even] unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.
7:6 And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.
7:7 And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!
7:8 O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!
7:9 For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear [of it], and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?
7:10 And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?
7:11 Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put [it] even among their own stuff.
7:12 Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, [but] turned [their] backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.
7:13 Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, [There is] an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.
7:14 In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, [that] the tribe which the LORD taketh shall come according to the families [thereof]; and the family which the LORD shall take shall come by households; and the household which the LORD shall take shall come man by man.
7:15 And it shall be, [that] he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.

7:1 But the sons of Israel acted unfaithfully in regard to the things under the ban, for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, from the tribe of Judah, took some of the things under the ban, therefore the anger of the LORD burned against the sons of Israel.
7:2 Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is near Beth-aven, east of Bethel, and said to them, "Go up and spy out the land." So the men went up and spied out Ai.
7:3 And they returned to Joshua and said to him, "Do not let all the people go up; [only] about two or three thousand men need go up to Ai; do not make all the people toil up there, for they are few."
7:4 So about three thousand men from the people went up there, but they fled from the men of Ai.
7:5 And the men of Ai struck down about thirty-six of their men, and pursued them from the gate as far as Shebarim, and struck them down on the descent, so the hearts of the people melted and became as water.
7:6 Then Joshua tore his clothes and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of the LORD until the evening, [both] he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.
7:7 And Joshua said, "Alas, O Lord GOD, why didst Thou ever bring this people over the Jordan, [only] to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? If only we had been willing to dwell beyond the Jordan!
7:8 "O Lord, what can I say since Israel has turned [their] back before their enemies?
7:9 "For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and they will surround us and cut off our name from the earth. And what wilt Thou do for Thy great name?"
7:10 So the LORD said to Joshua, "Rise up! Why is it that you have fallen on your face?
7:11 "Israel has sinned, and they have also transgressed My covenant which I commanded them. And they have even taken some of the things under the ban and have both stolen and deceived. Moreover, they have also put [them] among their own things.
7:12 "Therefore the sons of Israel cannot stand before their enemies; they turn [their] backs before their enemies, for they have become accursed. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy the things under the ban from your midst.
7:13 "Rise up! Consecrate the people and say, 'Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, for thus the LORD, the God of Israel, has said," There are things under the ban in your midst, O Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you have removed the things under the ban from your midst. "
7:14 'In the morning then you shall come near by your tribes. And it shall be that the tribe which the LORD takes [by lot] shall come near by families, and the family which the LORD takes shall come near by households, and the household which the LORD takes shall come near man by man.
7:15 'And it shall be that the one who is taken with the things under the ban shall be burned with fire, he and all that belongs to him, because he has transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he has committed a disgraceful thing in Israel.' "
