9:1~15
9:1 기브온 주민들이 여호수아를 속이다 이 일 후에 요단 서쪽 산지와 평지와 레바논 앞 대해 연안에 있는 헷 사람과 아모리 사람과 가나안 사람과 브리스 사람과 히위 사람과 여부스 사람의 모든 왕들이 이 일을 듣고
9:2 모여서 일심으로 여호수아와 이스라엘에 맞서서 싸우려 하더라
9:3 기브온 주민들이 여호수아가 여리고와 아이에 행한 일을 듣고
9:4 꾀를 내어 사신의 모양을 꾸미되 해어진 전대와 해어지고 찢어져서 기운 가죽 포도주 부대를 나귀에 싣고
9:5 그 발에는 낡아서 기운 신을 신고 낡은 옷을 입고 다 마르고 곰팡이가 난 떡을 준비하고
9:6 그들이 길갈 진영으로 가서 여호수아에게 이르러 그와 이스라엘 사람들에게 이르되 우리는 먼 나라에서 왔나이다 이제 우리와 조약을 맺읍시다 하니
9:7 이스라엘 사람들이 히위 사람에게 이르되 너희가 우리 가운데에 거주하는 듯하니 우리가 어떻게 너희와 조약을 맺을 수 있으랴 하나
9:8 그들이 여호수아에게 이르되 우리는 당신의 종들이니이다 하매 여호수아가 그들에게 묻되 너희는 누구며 어디서 왔느냐 하니
9:9 그들이 여호수아에게 대답하되 종들은 당신의 하나님 여호와의 이름으로 말미암아 심히 먼 나라에서 왔사오니 이는 우리가 그의 소문과 그가 애굽에서 행하신 모든 일을 들으며
9:10 또 그가 요단 동쪽에 있는 아모리 사람의 두 왕들 곧 헤스본 왕 시혼과 아스다롯에 있는 바산 왕 옥에게 행하신 모든 일을 들었음이니이다
9:11 그러므로 우리 장로들과 우리 나라의 모든 주민이 우리에게 말하여 이르되 너희는 여행할 양식을 손에 가지고 가서 그들을 만나서 그들에게 이르기를 우리는 당신들의 종들이니 이제 우리와 조약을 맺읍시다 하라 하였나이다
9:12 우리의 이 떡은 우리가 당신들에게로 오려고 떠나던 날에 우리들의 집에서 아직도 뜨거운 것을 양식으로 가지고 왔으나 보소서 이제 말랐고 곰팡이가 났으며
9:13 또 우리가 포도주를 담은 이 가죽 부대도 새 것이었으나 찢어지게 되었으며 우리의 이 옷과 신도 여행이 매우 길었으므로 낡아졌나이다 한지라
9:14 무리가 그들의 양식을 취하고는 어떻게 할지를 여호와께 묻지 아니하고
9:15 여호수아가 곧 그들과 화친하여 그들을 살리리라는 조약을 맺고 회중 족장들이 그들에게 맹세하였더라

9:1 기브온 사람들이 여호수아를 속이다 요단 강 서쪽의 야산과 평원지대와 지중해 연안에서 레바논에 이르는 곳에 사는, 헷 사람과 아모리 사람과 가나안 사람과 브리스 사람과 히위 사람과 여부스 사람의 모든 왕이 이 소식을 듣고,
9:2 함께 모여서, 여호수아와 이스라엘에 맞서서 싸우기로 뜻을 모았다.
9:3 히위 사람인 기브온 주민들은, 여호수아라는 사람이 여리고 성과 아이 성에서 한 일을 듣고서,
9:4 여호수아를 속이기로 결정하였다. 그들은 낡은 부대와 헤어지고 터져서 기운 가죽 포도주 부대를 나귀에 싣고서, 외모를 사절단처럼 꾸미고, 길을 떠났다.
9:5 발에는 낡아서 기운 신을 싣고, 몸에는 낡은 옷을 걸쳤으며, 마르고 곰팡이 난 빵을 준비하였다.
9:6 그들은 길갈 진에 있는 여호수아에게 와서, 그와 이스라엘 사람들에게 말하였다. "우리는 먼 곳에서 왔습니다. 이제 우리와 조약을 맺어 주십시오."
9:7 이스라엘 사람들이 이 히위 사람들에게 말하였다. "당신들은 우리 근처에 사는 듯한데, 어떻게 우리가 당신들과 조약을 맺을 수 있겠소 ?"
9:8 그들이 여호수아에게 말하였다. "우리를 종으로 삼아 주십시오." 여호수아가 그들에게 물었다. "당신들은 누구이며, 어디에서 왔소 ?"
9:9 그들이 여호수아에게 대답하였다. "종들은 주 하나님의 명성을 듣고서, 아주 먼 곳에서 왔습니다. 우리는 주께서 이집트에서 하신 모든 일을 들었으며,
9:10 또 주께서 요단 강 동쪽 아모리 사람의 두 왕, 곧 헤스본 왕 시혼과 아스다롯에 있는 바산 왕 옥에게 하신 일을 모두 들었습니다.
9:11 그래서 우리 땅에 살고 있는 장로들과 모든 주민이 우리를 이리로 보냈습니다. 우리 기브온 주민은, 다만 처분 만을 기다린다는 것과, 종이 될 각오가 되어 있다는 것을 말씀드리고, 우리와 평화조약을 맺어 주십사고 하는 부탁을 하려고 이렇게 왔습니다.
9:12 우리가 가져 온 이 빵을 보십시오. 우리가 이리로 오려고 길을 떠나던 날, 집에서 이 빵을 쌀 때만 하더라도 이 빵은 따뜻하였습니다. 그러나 보십시오, 지금은 말랐고, 곰팡이가 났습니다.
9:13 우리가 포도주를 담은 이 가죽부대도 본래는 새것이었습니다. 그런데 보십시오, 낡아서 찢어졌습니다. 우리의 옷과 신도 먼 길을 오는 동안 이렇게 낡아서 헤어졌습니다."
9:14 이스라엘 사람들은, 어떻게 해야 할지를 주께 묻지도 않은 채, 그들이 가져 온 양식을 넘겨 받았다.
9:15 여호수아는 그들과 화친하여, 그들을 살려 준다는 조약을 맺고, 회중의 지도자들은 그 조약을 지키기로 엄숙히 맹세하였다.

9:3 기브온 거민들이 여호수아의 여리고와 아이에 행한 일을 듣고

9:8 그들이 여호수아에게 이르되 우리는 당신의 종이니이다 여호수아가 그들에게 묻되 너희는 누구며 어디서 왔느뇨
9:9 그들이 여호수아에게 대답하되 종들은 당신의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 인하여 심히 먼 지방에서 왔사오니 이는 우리가 그의 명성과 그가 애굽에서 행하신 모든 일을 들으며
9:10 또 그가 요단 동편에 있는 아모리 사람의 두 왕 곧 헤스본 왕 시혼과 아스다롯에 있는 바산 왕 옥에게 행하신 모든 일을 들었음이니이다
9:11 그러므로 우리 장로들과 우리 나라의 모든 거민이 우리에게 일러 가로되 너희는 여행할 양식을 손에 가지고 가서 그들을 맞아서 그들에게 이르기를 우리는 당신들의 종이니 청컨대 이제 우리와 약조하사이다 하라 하였나이다
9:12 우리의 이 떡은 우리가 당신들에게로 오려고 떠나던 날에 우리들의 집에서 오히려 뜨거운 것을 양식으로 취하였더니 보소서 이제 말랐고 곰팡이 났으며
9:13 또 우리가 포도주를 담은 이 가죽부대도 새 것이더니 찢어지게 되었으며 우리의 이 옷과 신도 여행이 심히 길므로 인하여 낡아졌나이다 한지라
9:14 무리가 그들의 양식을 취하고 어떻게 할 것을 여호와께 묻지 아니하고
9:15 여호수아가 곧 그들과 화친하여 그들을 살리리라는 언약을 맺고 회중 족장들이 그들에게 맹세하였더라

9:1 이 소식을 듣고 요르단강 건너편 산악지대와 야산지대와 대해 연안을 끼고 레바논에 이르는 지역에 사는 헷족, 아모리족, 가나안족, 브리즈족, 히위족, 여부스족의 왕들은 모두
9:2 동맹을 맺어 여호수아가 거느린 이스라엘과 싸우기로 의견을 모았다.
9:3 그런데 기브온 주민들은 여호수아가 예리고와 아이를 해치운 이야기를 듣고
9:4 가만히 있을 수 없어 속임수를 쓰기로 하였다. 그들은 너덜너덜한부대와 터져서 기운 헌 가죽 술부대를 나귀에 싣고 떠날 채비를 차렸다.
9:5 또 밤에는 닳아빠져 기운 신을 신고 낡은 옷을 입고 또 말라서 바삭바삭하는 빵을 가지고 떠났다.
9:6 그들은 길갈에 있는 이스라엘 진지로 여호수아를 찾아 가 그와 이스라엘 사람들에게 말하였다. "우리는 먼 나라에서 왔습니다. 이제 우리와 조약을 맺어 주십시오."
9:7 이스라엘 사람들이 그 히위 사람들에게 "당신들은 이 근방에 사는것 같은데, 우리가 어떻게 당신들과 조약을 맺을 수 있겠소?" 하고 대답하자,
9:8 그들은 여호수아에게 이렇게 말하는 것이었다. "우리는 당신의 종입니다." 그러나 여호수아가 "그대들은 누군가? 어디에서 왔는가?" 하고 묻자,
9:9 그들은 이렇게 대답하였다. "소인들은 당신의 하느님 야훼의 명을듣고 아주 먼 나라에서 왔습니다. 우리는 그의 이야기를 들었습니다. 그가 에집트에서 하신 모든 일과
9:10 요르단강 건너 지역의 두 아모리 왕 곧 헤스본 왕 시혼과 아스다롯에 사는 바산 왕 옥을 해치우신 이야기를 모두 들었습니다.
9:11 우리 나라의 장로들과 온 백성이 도중에 먹을 양식을 마련해 주면서 당신들을 만나라고 우리를 보냈습니다. 그래서 이렇게, 우리는 당신들의 종이니 우리와 조약을 맺어 달라고 청하는 것입니다.
9:12 여기에 우리의 빵이 있습니다. 당신들께 오려고 집에서 만들어 가지고 떠날 때는 따끈따끈하던 것입니다. 그런데 보시다시피 이제는 이렇게 말라서 바삭바삭해졌습니다.
9:13 이 부대도 술을 채울 때는 새 것이었는데 보시다시피 이렇게 터졌고 우리 옷과 신발도 먼 길을 오다 보니 이렇게 헤어졌습니다."
9:14 이스라엘 회중의 대표들은 야훼의 허락을 얻지도 않고 그들에게 양식을 받았다.
9:15 그리고 여호수아는 그들과 우호관계를 맺기로 하고 그들의 목숨을보장한다는 조약을 체결해 주었으며 회중의 지도자들은 그들에게 맹세하였다.

9:1 요단강 서쪽 지역의 왕들이 이 일을 듣고 합세하여 여호수아가 이끄는 이스라엘 군과 맞서 싸울 태세를 갖추었다. 그들은 산간 지대와 저지대와 북쪽으로 레바논까지 뻗어 있는 지중해 연안 일대에 흩어져 사는 헷족, 아모리족, 가나안족, 브리스족, 히위족, 여부스족의 왕들이었다.
9:2 (1절과 같음)
9:3 그러나 히위족의 기브온 사람들은 여리고와 아이에서 일어난 일을 듣고
9:4 살 길을 찾기 위해 묘한 꾀를 내어 여호수아에게 사신을 보냈다. 그들이 보낸 사신들은 먼 여행을 한 것처럼 해어져서 너덜너덜한 마대를 안장에 달고, 낡고 터져서 기운 포도주 부대를 나귀에 싣고,
9:5 닳아서 기운 신발을 신고, 남루한 옷을 입고, 마르고 곰팡이 냄새가 나는 빵을 마련하여
9:6 이스라엘 사람들이 머물고 있는 곳을 향해 떠났다. 그들은 길갈에 있는 이스라엘 진영에 이르러 여호수아와 그 백성에게 '우리는 당신들과 평화 조약을 맺기 위해 먼 땅에서 왔습니다. 이제 우리와 조약을 맺읍시다.' 하였다.
9:7 그러나 이스라엘 사람들은 이 히위 사람들에게 이렇게 말하였다. '당신들은 이 부근에 사는 사람들 같은데, 만일 그것이 사실이라면 우리가 어떻게 당신들과 조약을 맺겠소 ?'
9:8 그들이 여호수아에게 '우리가 당신의 종이 되겠습니다.' 하고 대답하자 여호수아가 그들에게 물었다. '당신들은 누구며 어디에서 왔소 ?'
9:9 그때 그들은 여호수아에게 이렇게 대답하였다. '우리는 당신의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 듣고 아주 먼 지방에서 왔습니다. 우리는 그가 이집트에서 행하신 모든 일과
9:10 또 그가 요단 동쪽 지방에 살던 아모리 사람들의 두 왕, 곧 헤스본 왕 시혼과 아스다롯에 있던 바산 왕 옥에게 행하신 일도 전부 들었습니다.
9:11 그래서 우리 지도자들과 우리 땅에 사는 모든 사람들이 우리를 당신에게 보내면서 너희는 여행에 필요한 식량을 준비하고 이스라엘 사람들에게 가서 우리가 그들의 종이 되겠다고 알리고 평화 조약을 맺으라고 했습니다.
9:12 우리가 가진 이 빵을 보십시오. 우리가 이 곳으로 떠나올 때 이 빵은 찜통에서 막 끄집어 내어 따끈따끈했었는데 지금 보다시피 이것은 바싹 마르고 곰팡이까지 피었습니다.
9:13 또 포도주를 담았던 이 가죽 부대도 처음에는 새 것이었으나 지금은 낡아 찢어졌습니다. 이것뿐만 아니라 우리의 이 옷과 신발도 긴 여행을 하는 동안 낡고 닳아서 못 쓰게 되었습니다.'
9:14 여호수아와 백성의 지도자들은 그들이 가져온 음식을 조사해 보고 이 문제에 대해서 여호와께 물어 보지도 않은 채 곧 기브온 사람들과 평화 조약을 맺고 그들을 이스라엘 백성과 함께 살 수 있도록 허락해 주었다. 그리고 백성의 지도자들은 그들과 맺은 조약을 엄숙히 지킬 것을 맹세하였다.

9:1 Now when all the kings west of the Jordan heard about these things--those in the hill country, in the western foothills, and along the entire coast of the Great Sea as far as Lebanon (the kings of the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites)--
9:2 they came together to make war against Joshua and Israel.
9:3 However, when the people of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai,
9:4 they resorted to a ruse: They went as a delegation whose donkeys were loaded with worn-out sacks and old wineskins, cracked and mended.
9:5 The men put worn and patched sandals on their feet and wore old clothes. All the bread of their food supply was dry and moldy.
9:6 Then they went to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal and said to him and the men of Israel, "We have come from a distant country; make a treaty with us."
9:7 The men of Israel said to the Hivites, "But perhaps you live near us. How then can we make a treaty with you?"
9:8 "We are your servants," they said to Joshua. But Joshua asked, "Who are you and where do you come from?"
9:9 They answered: "Your servants have come from a very distant country because of the fame of the LORD your God. For we have heard reports of him: all that he did in Egypt,
9:10 and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan--Sihon king of Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth.
9:11 And our elders and all those living in our country said to us, 'Take provisions for your journey; go and meet them and say to them, "We are your servants; make a treaty with us." '
9:12 This bread of ours was warm when we packed it at home on the day we left to come to you. But now see how dry and moldy it is.
9:13 And these wineskins that we filled were new, but see how cracked they are. And our clothes and sandals are worn out by the very long journey."
9:14 The men of Israel sampled their provisions but did not inquire of the LORD.
9:15 Then Joshua made a treaty of peace with them to let them live, and the leaders of the assembly ratified it by oath.

9:1 And it came to pass, when all the kings which [were] on this side Jordan, in the hills, and in the valleys, and in all the coasts of the great sea over against Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard [thereof];
9:2 That they gathered themselves together, to fight with Joshua and with Israel, with one accord.
9:3 And when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done unto Jericho and to Ai,
9:4 They did work wilily, and went and made as if they had been ambassadors, and took old sacks upon their asses, and wine bottles, old, and rent, and bound up;
9:5 And old shoes and clouted upon their feet, and old garments upon them; and all the bread of their provision was dry [and] mouldy.
9:6 And they went to Joshua unto the camp at Gilgal, and said unto him, and to the men of Israel, We be come from a far country: now therefore make ye a league with us.
9:7 And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, Peradventure ye dwell among us; and how shall we make a league with you?
9:8 And they said unto Joshua, We [are] thy servants. And Joshua said unto them, Who [are] ye? and from whence come ye?
9:9 And they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come because of the name of the LORD thy God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt,
9:10 And all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites, that [were] beyond Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, which [was] at Ashtaroth.
9:11 Wherefore our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spake to us, saying, Take victuals with you for the journey, and go to meet them, and say unto them, We [are] your servants: therefore now make ye a league with us.
9:12 This our bread we took hot [for] our provision out of our houses on the day we came forth to go unto you; but now, behold, it is dry, and it is mouldy:
9:13 And these bottles of wine, which we filled, [were] new; and, behold, they be rent: and these our garments and our shoes are become old by reason of the very long journey.
9:14 And the men took of their victuals, and asked not [counsel] at the mouth of the LORD.
9:15 And Joshua made peace with them, and made a league with them, to let them live: and the princes of the congregation sware unto them.

9:1 Now it came about when all the kings who were beyond the Jordan, in the hill country and in the lowland and on all the coast of the Great Sea toward Lebanon, the Hittite and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, heard of it,
9:2 that they gathered themselves together with one accord to fight with Joshua and with Israel.
9:3 When the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai,
9:4 they also acted craftily and set out as envoys, and took worn-out sacks on their donkeys, and wineskins, worn-out and torn and mended,
9:5 and worn-out and patched sandals on their feet, and worn-out clothes on themselves; and all the bread of their provision was dry [and] had become crumbled.
9:6 And they went to Joshua to the camp at Gilgal, and said to him and to the men of Israel, "We have come from a far country; now therefore, make a covenant with us."
9:7 And the men of Israel said to the Hivites, "Perhaps you are living within our land; how then shall we make a covenant with you?"
9:8 But they said to Joshua, "We are your servants." Then Joshua said to them, "Who are you, and where do you come from?"
9:9 And they said to him, "Your servants have come from a very far country because of the fame of the LORD your God; for we have heard the report of Him and all that He did in Egypt,
9:10 and all that He did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon and to Og king of Bashan who was at Ashtaroth.
9:11 "So our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spoke to us, saying, 'Take provisions in your hand for the journey, and go to meet them and say to them," We are your servants; now then, make a covenant with us. "'
9:12 "This our bread [was] warm [when] we took it for our provisions out of our houses on the day that we left to come to you; but now behold, it is dry and has become crumbled.
9:13 "And these wineskins which we filled were new, and behold, they are torn; and these our clothes and our sandals are worn out because of the very long journey."
9:14 So the men [of Israel] took some of their provisions, and did not ask for the counsel of the LORD.
9:15 And Joshua made peace with them and made a covenant with them, to let them live; and the leaders of the congregation swore [an oath] to them.
